Unfortunately, Trex’s chairs come in a more traditional color palette. Trex is one probably the biggest brand name in the poly resin material market and is one of our favorite outdoor furniture brands. They have been selling porch decking and flooring for decades.
Now back to the project at hand: After getting acquainted at The New Yankee Workshop, Abram and I first inspected the original Adirondack he built, one based largely on a design his father had used years ago. It had weathered well and withstood the elements for more than a decade in continuous outdoor duty. He explained it was made from cypress, an excellent choice for outdoor projects, and he had laid in a supply for our new chairs.

Now install the back slats. To get the right look, proper spacing of the slats is important. Start with the center slat, placing it dead center in the back. I used four screws for each back slat, inserting one in the bottom, then made sure the top was positioned properly, then I secured it with three more. Be careful drilling the screw holes and countersink for the upper crosspiece as these must be done on an angle, drilling straight into the crosspiece, but at an angle to the back slat.

Links to each project are below the image.

The benefit to plastic adirondack chairs is that they are more weather-resistant than wood Adirondack chairs and are easier to take care of and keep clean. While wood adirondack chairs typically require regular oil treatment to keep them looking nice, plastic adirondack chairs can just be hosed off or wiped down. Teak is one of the best woods for outdoor furniture, and is better than other woods like pine, oak, bamboo, or wicker — these other woods do not weather well and require lots of maintenance.

The finish is only available in two colors, a natural cedar color and a pale gray. All of the other pieces on our list today are available in several color options, so this is a significant downside to us.
